I've mulled over a number of ideas as for what to do with seven weeks of mandatory vacation, and finally latched onto something: I'm going to drive from coast to coast, then back again. It's an eight- or ten-day trek if you keep to the highways and go straight there and back, but I'll take a more meandering course, which will stretch it out a bit. It probably won't fill the whole time, but I'm guessing I can blow three to five weeks of it.
I can't really say why I feel the need to do this. It just strikes me that I have the opportunity, and I might as well. Mainly, it's the sinking feeling I get at the prospect of not doing anything at all - seven weeks of paid vacation is a rare opportunity, one that I'll probably never have again, and I'd just feel sick about it in the future, if I looked back and thought of all the things I could have did, but didn't.
And so, driving coast-to-coast on the back roads seems like a good enough "accomplishment" to have filled the time. And though I'll probably regret some of the things I might have done, but didn't do, at least there will be one thing I can say that I did, as an excuse for not doing whatever it is I come to regret not having done.

YAY for you! OK well if you go near Nevada and have never been to Vegas be sure to go...it's a sight to see regardless if you drink or gamble. Becareful if driving through Texas they love giving tickets. Have fun and please post so I will live vicariously through you.
I think that's a marvelous idea! Apparently ya got the time, ya got the $$$ & ya got the desire, so why the hell not. I think it'll be just what the doctor ordered. Just remember to pack enuff clean underwear 'n a workin' camera...'n you'll be good to go!
Oooh, this sounds productive, WTG!
Are you considering stops at any major tourist attractions? Driving the southern route one way and the northern route back?
Ohh Ohh, can you go see the Grand Canyon for me? :o)
Sounds like a plan! Good way to get away from the family lawyers for a bit too.
